How to tell your manager (a script that works)

The most common mistake is over-explaining. Your manager doesn't need a biology lesson. They need to know what's changing and what would help.

Try this opener: 'I want to flag something so we can plan around it. I'm in perimenopause, and there are a few specific things that affect my best work. I have a couple of small adjustments in mind — could we talk through them?'

Lead with what you'll do. 'I'll keep mornings free of deep work on the days my sleep is worst. I'll move my biggest meetings to before lunch when possible.'

Then ask for one or two specific accommodations. A small fan at your desk. Camera-off on early calls. Flexibility on hottest days. Specific beats vague every time.

Close with intent. 'I want to keep performing at the level we both expect. This is how I plan to do that.'
